Maren Fichter, a German, has been interested in tea since childhood. After graduating from Oxford University, she settled in Bath, England and is currently engaged in multiple tea related jobs. As a food and beverage walking tour guide, Maren introduces British afternoon tea culture to tourists. As a trainer, she trains professions for Bath Matcha Cafe and UK Tea Academy. Maren believes that the reason why matcha can be integrated into European dining culture is because it is easy to blend into daily life in Europe. Simplifying tea sets and brewing steps is the concept of Maren’s training for beginners. In 2025, Maren participated in the international tea processing training organized by the Chinese Tea Science Society and the tea tour organized by the Tea Times Magazine. She will be an assistant manager at a Japanese tea farm in 2026, assisting with tea farming and processing as well as managing the international tourism program.

Mylène Dupuy Althabegoïthy planted 4000 tea trees in the North Basque region of France, and 10 tea gardens have been developed throughout the Basque region in recent years. The Tea farmers came together to exchange experiences and organize activities. Latvian Tea Specialist – Gundega Silniece

Gundega Silniece comes from Latvia, a country on the east coast of the Baltic Sea in Europe. She runs a tea house in the center of the capital Riga and has been involved in the beverage and baking industries such as tea and coffee since 2009, organizing service activities such as food exhibitions, competitions, and teaching. The national tea drink in Latvia is herbal tea, and the younger generation today is showing an interest in high-quality tea. The tea atmosphere in Latvia and even throughout Europe is becoming more active. In June 2025, Gundega has just completed her training in China and plans to invest more energy in the tea industry in the future.

Christine Parks and her family have jointly inherited and operated the Camellia Forest Tea Gardens for two generations. The tea plantation is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA, and has been developed for over forty years, from camellia flowers to tea tree cultivation and processing. Christine collaborated with tea enthusiast Susan Walcott to publish the tea book “Growing Your Own Tea: The Complete Guide to Cultivating, Harvesting, and Preparing,” which became a must read for American family gardens and small-scale tea farmers.

Maria was born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay. She is a descendant of a European family that immigrated to South America in the 19th century and has European ancestry from France, Spain, Italy, and England. Maria started drinking tea since she was young. Her grandmother came from England and was once a well-known tailor. Maria recalled that she often went to her grandmother’s studio after school, where there were always British porcelain teapots waiting for her. After reaching adulthood, Maria went to Bordeaux, France to study and work in digital communication, even establishing her own company. During this period, she was exposed to tea and tea utensils from China and Japan, initially as a hobby during her leisure time. At the age of 38, she decided to close her agency, leave Bordeaux, and return to South America to open a tea house.

Thomas M. Grömer, from Vienna, Austria, is a successful European tea entrepreneur known as the “Tea Pope”. In the 1990s, Thomas went to Japan to study, majoring in tea at university and obtaining a Japanese tea taster certificate. In 2001, Thomas founded a tea company in Europe, which now has two tea brands and four office locations in Hamburg and Vienna. Its products are sold to 47 countries in Europe and West Africa. Professional ‘Nose’ in the Tea Industry

Carine Baudry is a professional nose from Paris, France, with years of experience in aroma creation that has given her a deep understanding of sensory evaluation. Currently working at the tea academy of the tea brand Nunshen, Carine has developed a tea evaluation system primarily based on olfactory perception of tea, utilizing sensory evaluation techniques and descriptive dialectics for teaching and training. The French non-profit organization Femmes de Culture has named Carine one of the 100 Women of Culture 2023. Traveling to the origins of the world’s magic fragrance products and cooperating with people from the famous French industries, such as red wine, perfume and food, Carine shared her personal understanding, how to introduce tea to the French in the right way.

International Tea Consultant- Nigel Melican

Nigel Melican currently resides in Ireland and is semi retired. At the age of 83, he has been running his own tea consulting company over 30 years. He once worked as a product developer and trouble-shooter at Unilever Research. He was a botanist who accidentally entered the tea industry in the 1980s and worked in multiple tea producing countries to assist in establishing and improving tea factories. In 1990, Nigel opened his own tea consulting company Teacraft, which involved businesses in 31 countries on six continents, Asia, Africa, North and South America, Australia, and Europe. In 2018, he also led the establishment of the European Specialty Tea Association to promote multi-party connections in the tea industry chain. Nigel has focused his company’s efforts over the past decade on assisting small tea farmers and factories, and encouraging tea brands to develop international markets.
