New Beverage Culture – Alcohol Free

Nicole Klauß grew up immersed in both German and Japanese tea cultures. Starting in 2017, she published two books on non-alcoholic beverages: The New Beverage Culture and Alcohol-Free, which introduce a variety of tea-based drinks. Nicole hopes that both everyday consumers and professional culinary practitioners in Germany and Europe will pay more attention to non-alcoholic beverages. In the 1990s, Nicole has briefly worked and traveled in China, where tea and tea culture left a deep impression on her. Although Chinese tea and tea culture are still relatively niche in Germany, there is room for development—matcha culture, for instance, has grown quite well in recent years.

Maren Fichter‘s Tea Journey

Maren Fichter, a German, has been interested in tea since childhood. After graduating from Oxford University, she settled in Bath, England and is currently engaged in multiple tea related jobs. As a food and beverage walking tour guide, Maren introduces British afternoon tea culture to tourists. As a trainer, she trains professions for Bath Matcha Cafe and UK Tea Academy. Maren believes that the reason why matcha can be integrated into European dining culture is because it is easy to blend into daily life in Europe. Simplifying tea sets and brewing steps is the concept of Maren’s training for beginners. In 2025, Maren participated in the international tea processing training organized by the Chinese Tea Science Society and the tea tour organized by the Tea Times Magazine. She will be an assistant manager at a Japanese tea farm in 2026, assisting with tea farming and processing as well as managing the international tourism program.

Dutch Tea People work in Japanese Tea Gardens – Marjolein Raijmakers

Marjolein Raijmakers is from the Netherlands in Europe, but her love for tea led her to work and live in Japan, Asia. Growing up in a multicultural environment surrounded by diverse tea cultures, Marjolein gradually developed a deep interest in the tea industry. She learned about tea through training programs and international tea tours, combining theory with practice. Marjolein worked for three years at a well-established Dutch tea and coffee brand, primarily as shop assistant and handling online orders. From 2023 to the present, she has lived in Nagasaki, Japan, where she is responsible for developing international tea tourism and promoting sales of Nagasaki regions’ teas for Nagasaki Ikedoki Tea. In 2025, Marjolein participated in an international tea processing training program organized by the China Tea Science Society and a tea tour arranged by Tea Times magazine. She cherishes this learning opportunity and hopes that they take the lead in teaching accurate knowledge about Chinese tea worldwide, while looking forward to the future development of Chinese tea.

Basque Country Tea Grower- Mendikotea

Mylène Dupuy Althabegoïthy planted 4000 tea trees in the North Basque region of France, and 10 tea gardens have been developed throughout the Basque region in recent years. The Tea farmers came together to exchange experiences and organize activities. In August 2025, they organized an open day for tea gardens, attracting many visitors and seemingly aiming to develop a local small-scale industry. In 2025, Mylène participated in the international tea processing training organized by the China Tea Science Society, marveling at the richness of Chinese culture and the modernization of the tea industry.

Latvian Tea Specialist – Gundega Silniece

Gundega Silniece comes from Latvia, a country on the east coast of the Baltic Sea in Europe. She runs a tea house in the center of the capital Riga and has been involved in the beverage and baking industries such as tea and coffee since 2009, organizing service activities such as food exhibitions, competitions, and teaching. The national tea drink in Latvia is herbal tea, and the younger generation today is showing an interest in high-quality tea. The tea atmosphere in Latvia and even throughout Europe is becoming more active. In June 2025, Gundega has just completed her training in China and plans to invest more energy in the tea industry in the future.

South American tea producing regions – Argentine Blended Tea

Jorgelina Lezcano and her husband founded the blended tea brand Motivos in Argentina, using loose tea grown and processed in Argentina as the main ingredient, and its sales have continued to grow over the past five years. Yerba Mate tea is the national drink of Argentina, while afternoon tea customs and tea tree cultivation were only introduced to Argentina by European immigrants in the 19th and 20th centuries. Argentine tea farmers have always sold fresh leaves to major producers and processed them into broken tea for export. Since 2010, some tea plantation owners have begun to experiment with independent processing and production of tea products, and have established an association to develop supporting industries such as tourism in tea gardens.

North American Tea Plantation – Camellia Forest

Christine Parks and her family have jointly inherited and operated the Camellia Forest Tea Gardens for two generations. The tea plantation is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA, and has been developed for over forty years, from camellia flowers to tea tree cultivation and processing. Christine collaborated with tea enthusiast Susan Walcott to publish the tea book “Growing Your Own Tea: The Complete Guide to Cultivating, Harvesting, and Preparing,” which became a must read for American family gardens and small-scale tea farmers.

New European Tea Festival Organizer

Maria was born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay. She is a descendant of a European family that immigrated to South America in the 19th century and has European ancestry from France, Spain, Italy, and England. Maria started drinking tea since she was young. Her grandmother came from England and was once a well-known tailor. Maria recalled that she often went to her grandmother’s studio after school, where there were always British porcelain teapots waiting for her. After reaching adulthood, Maria went to Bordeaux, France to study and work in digital communication, even establishing her own company. During this period, she was exposed to tea and tea utensils from China and Japan, initially as a hobby during her leisure time. At the age of 38, she decided to close her agency, leave Bordeaux, and return to South America to open a tea house.

A new Attempt by Tea Industry Professional in Hamburg, Germany

Marten Verch works for food related books and is currently employed by a publishing house in Hamburg, Germany. He has work experience in tea trading companies in Hamburg and the German Tea Association. In recent years, Marten has started planting tea trees and has plans to expand tea gardens in the future. He expressed his expectations for the development of Hamburg tea culture, while sharing his understanding of the significance of the German Tea Association in the industry, as well as the opportunities and challenges that tea brands need to face in expanding overseas markets.
